Discovery by Sketch
I am a sketch explorer — an artist, educator, writer, and adventurer based in the tiny Southeast Alaskan town of Hoonah. Working mostly on location, I use brush and pen to discover and document the fascinating environments where I live and travel. My goal is to capture what the camera shutter cannot, my thinking and process as important as my final image.
My work is available for purchase, including commissions. All profits go to supporting conservation of Southeast Alaska's unique environment and lifestyle. Just use the contact form below to discuss your project or order cards and prints of any work on this site.
My 25-plus years of classroom teaching experience in art, English, Spanish, and social studies makes me sensitive to how learning to draw and paint differs from studying most other subjects. Currently, I teach observational art at Hoonah City Schools, both as an Elective Intensive in the middle and high school, and as Art & Science Integration grades 2 through 5. I see drawing as a tool subject which students can use to develop focus and curiosity while enriching their understanding of science, math, and creative writing.
I'd love to hear from you!
