Discovery by Sketch
I am a sketch explorer — an artist, teacher, writer, and adventurer based in the tiny Southeast Alaskan town of Hoonah. Working mostly on location, I use brush and pen to discover and document details of the human and natural worlds.
However, my 25-plus years of classroom teaching experience in art, English, Spanish, and social studies makes me sensitive to how learning to draw and paint differs from studying most other subjects. Currently, I teach observational art at Hoonah City Schools grades 2 through high school. I think of drawing as a tool subject which the students can use to develop focus and curiosity while enhancing their understanding of science, math, and creative writing.
My work is available for purchase, and all profits go to supporting conservation of Southeast Alaska's unique environment and lifestyle. Please contact me for details -- or just to say "hi!"
